Château Dedieu Vin de Bordeaux

Eighteen hectares of vines between Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, a family story, and a wine that travels the world.

100%

of the production is sold in bulk, under contract, to négociant houses, then exported.

Château Dedieu does not sell to private customers.
The estate

A Bordeaux wine that travels, a land that stays.

Château Dedieu lies in Val de Virvée, 25 km north of Bordeaux and 26 km north-west of Saint-Émilion. On 18 hectares, the estate produces red wines under two appellations: Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur.

Our story

Five chapters, one land.

From a family estate farmed since the 1930s to a wine now sold for export: the story of Château Dedieu.

The beginnings

Born into a family of winegrowers, Cédric Dublaix studied business before taking over part of the family estate from his great-aunt and great-uncle, Edwige and Rémi Dedieu, who had farmed 12 hectares of vines since the 1930s. In their honour, he named his wine after them: Château Dedieu.

The land

The vineyard spans two villages, Val de Virvée and Saint-André-de-Cubzac, in three separate blocks: clay-limestone soils in Aubie-et-Espessas, gravel in Saint-André-de-Cubzac and sand in Salignac. Each terroir brings its own structure and aromas; together they give the wine its complexity.

The craft

The vines are planted 2 m between rows and 1.20 m between plants, a density of 4,166 vines per hectare, and double-Guyot pruned to spread the grapes evenly along the vine. Grass grows between the rows; only the strip under the vines is weeded. The vineyard is farmed sustainably: Cédric only treats according to disease pressure. Since 2022, the estate has been committed to France's High Environmental Value scheme (HVE 3).

The winemaking

Harvesting is done by machine, which makes it possible to wait for optimal ripeness: mid-September for the Merlot, early October for the Cabernets. It takes six days to bring in the whole crop, which goes into stainless-steel vats. Maceration lasts three weeks on average. Alcoholic fermentation runs between 26 and 29 °C to keep as much fruit as possible, then the temperature is raised to 30 °C at the end to build structure.

Today

The estate sells its entire production for export. Today's real challenge: making balanced wines that are true to Bordeaux, despite the vagaries of the weather and climate change.

The winegrower

Cédric Dublaix

“The pleasure of working in the middle of nature every morning, and of starting from the pruning of a single vine shoot to craft, after a year's work, a wine that reflects who I am.”

Born into a family of winegrowers, Cédric Dublaix first studied business before taking over part of the family estate. Today he runs the 18 hectares of Château Dedieu, from pruning the vines to making the wine.

A year at the estate

Twelve months for one vintage.

Wine is made in the vineyard first, season after season.

Winter

Pruning

Each vine is double-Guyot pruned to spread the grapes evenly. Pruning already sets the coming harvest.

Spring

Awakening

Buds burst, then comes flowering. Grass grows between the rows: only the foot of the vines is weeded.

Summer

Véraison

The bunches change colour and fill with sugar. The vines are only treated according to disease pressure.

Autumn

Harvest

Mid-September for the Merlot, early October for the Cabernets: six days to bring the whole crop into stainless-steel vats.

“Bright, young-looking red. Suggestions of black fruits on the nose coupled with an oaky tone. The palate is fleshy and offers up more of the same delightful fruity aromatics.”
